FORT SMITH, AR – Students from the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (ARCOM) recently joined forces with Remote Area Medical (RAM) to offer free healthcare services during a weekend clinic at the Fort Smith Convention Center. The event aimed to deliver high-quality medical care to underserved and uninsured individuals in the community.

More than 200 patients received free services during the clinic, thanks to the efforts of over 200 volunteers. The total value of care provided amounted to more than $172,000!

“This clinic reflects ARCOM’s mission to serve communities in need while giving students invaluable hands-on experience in compassionate care,” said Dr. Monica Rojas, Medical Director of International Medicine and Cultural Education at ARCOM.

Available services included general medical exams, women’s health services, prescription consultations, dental procedures such as cleanings and extractions, and comprehensive vision care with prescription glasses made on-site.

Ammar Jihad, OMS II and Student Government Association President for the Class of 2027, added, “Too often, we get lost in chasing medical knowledge. It’s easy to forget what we’re chasing it for. This weekend was a much-needed reminder that we are humans first, before we are healers. It’s important to step outside of our world and into someone else’s—as a visitor—to learn how to improve their world while also improving ours.”

This partnership highlights ARCOM’s ongoing commitment to improving community health through service and outreach.

ARCOM and RAM extend their sincere gratitude to the sponsors who made this event possible: The Degen Foundation, First National Bank of Fort Smith, Arvest Bank, and the City of Fort Smith. Their generous support helped bring vital healthcare services to those who need it most.
