A MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN
Welcome to the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (ARCOM)!
We are thrilled to have you visit our website and learn more about our esteemed institution. Situated on 542 acres of what was once Fort Chaffee in Fort Smith, Arkansas, ARCOM has been shaping the next generation of physicians since August 2017. As the first of several health-related training programs under the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education (ACHE), we are dedicated to producing highly competent and compassionate healthcare professionals while fostering health research and providing a thriving living environment.
Our state-of-the-art 102,000 square-foot facility offers the latest in technology, spacious classrooms for both large and small groups, top-notch clinical practice areas, and cutting-edge laboratories. Serving as the centerpiece of a growing community, our campus also includes student housing, retail and restaurant spaces, wellness areas with trails and parks, and much more on the horizon.
At ARCOM, we boast a diverse and renowned faculty who challenge medical students through instruction in basic sciences, clinical practice, and the principles of osteopathic medicine. Our faculty members engage in a wide range of research endeavors, and our students have the opportunity to collaborate with them, gaining valuable research experience that enhances their medical careers and contributes to the advancement of knowledge.
From the very beginning of their medical education, our students engage in clinical experiences. Through simulation and standardized patient encounters, early clinical experiences, and service-learning opportunities, they develop practical skills and a deep understanding of patient care. During their clinical training years, our students have the opportunity to rotate in community hospitals and clinics throughout Arkansas, often working closely with physicians in a one-on-one setting. In their final year, they have a broad range of elective options to tailor their medical education to their individual interests and needs.
Wellness is a core value at ARCOM, and we prioritize the well-being of our employees, students, and community. Surrounded by the scenic beauty of the mountains, our campus offers ample opportunities for outdoor activities. With access to 40 miles of trails and a wellness park, our students can immerse themselves in nature. Additionally, we have a fitness lab conveniently located across the street. Our dedicated staff includes an on-campus wellness counselor, learning specialists, and many others who are committed to helping our students succeed.
We sincerely invite you to visit our campus and experience firsthand the beauty and excitement of ARCOM and the Fort Smith area. It is our hope that you will explore all that our website has to offer and find the information you seek. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Once again, welcome to ARCOM, where we strive to create exceptional physicians who will make a difference in the areas where they are needed the most.
Shannon Jimenez, Dean of ARCOM
