Dr. Michael Gooden is the Chair of Surgery at ARCOM and a veteran of the United States Army.  Dr. Gooden received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, which he attended on an Army scholarship.  He then completed his residency in General Surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.

After residency, Dr. Gooden was assigned as a staff surgeon at Womack Army Medical Center at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.  He served in roles both in garrison and while deployed in various locales.  He received his discharge from the Army in 2009 and he entered into Fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.  Upon completion of that training, Dr. Gooden started work as a General Surgeon at Baptist Health – Fort Smith.  He currently serves as the Chief of Staff of SRMC.

Dr. Gooden is married and has three children.
